HiveMQ develops an MQTT broker and surrounding platform used for moving data between devices, applications and enterprise systems. The broker supports MQTT 5, clustering and extensions for Kafka, Pulsar and security, and the company also offers HiveMQ Edge for industrial protocols such as OPC UA and Modbus, a Data Hub for validation and transformation, and a managed cloud. Customers are concentrated in automotive, logistics and manufacturing.

Known limits

  • Multi-broker clusters are only in the quote-based Enterprise plans; Lab, Launch and Run are limited to one broker
  • The Lab licence expires every 30 days and must be renewed manually
  • Data Hub ships with the platform only as a free single-policy version; full use needs a commercial licence
  • Cloud Starter throughput is capped at 1 MB/s; Serverless has no SLA and one permission per credential
  • Community Edition and Edge are Apache 2.0, but the enterprise extensions and Control Center are commercial
