Maker of the ESP32 family of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth microcontrollers used across consumer and industrial IoT.

Espressif is best known for the ESP32, a low-cost system on chip that pairs a microcontroller with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth radios. The family has grown to include the ESP32-C6 and ESP32-H2 with IEEE 802.15.4 for Thread and Zigbee, the ESP32-C5 with dual-band Wi-Fi, the ESP32-S3 with vector instructions for on-device machine learning, and the ESP32-P4 application processor. The chips sit inside countless smart plugs, lights, sensors and hobby projects, and they are the usual answer when a product needs Wi-Fi at the lowest bill-of-materials cost.

The company maintains ESP-IDF, an open-source development framework, along with Matter, RainMaker cloud and AI libraries. Its position in the market comes from price and ecosystem breadth; the considerations for a product team are supply-chain and regulatory requirements in some markets, and the fact that Wi-Fi is rarely the right radio for battery-powered devices.

Pricing model

Chips and modules are sold through distributors (DigiKey, Mouser) and Espressif storefronts on AliExpress, Amazon and Taobao; the product selector lists per-unit sample prices for reference (ESP32-C6 US$1.85, ESP32-P4 US$4) and bulk orders (MOQ 2,000) go through a sales form. ESP-IDF is free, with most components under the Apache 2.0 licence. Official pricing page.

Known limits

  • Bulk orders carry a stated MOQ of 2000 units and are quoted by sales; listed sample prices are reference only
  • Published FCC/CE/IC/SRRC/KC/TELEC/BQB certificates are issued per module and dev kit
  • Some chip variants are marked sample-only or EOL (for example ESP32-C3FN4)
  • Third-party components in ESP-IDF carry their own permissive licences
