Silicon Labs

Wireless SoCs and modules for Bluetooth, Zigbee, Thread, Matter, Wi-SUN and proprietary radio

Silicon Labs focuses on wireless system-on-chips and modules for low-power IoT devices. Its EFR32 Series 2 chips and the 22 nm Series 3 parts (SiXG301 for line-powered devices, SiXG302 for battery-powered ones) integrate Arm cores with Bluetooth Low Energy, Zigbee, Thread, Matter, Wi-SUN, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Amazon Sidewalk and proprietary sub-GHz radios, and ship with the Simplicity Studio 6 tools, the Simplicity SDK and protocol stacks. Smart home, smart metering, lighting and commercial building vendors use its parts, and Silicon Labs acquired the Z-Wave business from Sigma Designs in 2018. Product pages publish 1K-quantity prices, which is unusual among wireless chip vendors.

Main products

  • EFR32 Series 2 wireless SoCs
  • Series 3 SiXG301 and SiXG302 SoCs
  • Wi-Fi SoCs and modules
  • Z-Wave SoCs
  • Wi-SUN SoCs
  • Simplicity Studio 6
  • Simplicity SDK
  • Secure Vault

Pricing model

Product pages list 1K-quantity unit prices in US dollars (EFR32MG24 SoCs from 1K @ US$3.30 to US$4.11) with Buy, Sample and Dev Kit links to distributors. Simplicity Studio 6, the Simplicity SDK and protocol stacks are downloaded at no charge under the Master Software License Agreement, which grants a no-charge, royalty-free licence. Official pricing page.

Known limits

  • The software licence covers Authorized Applications that contain a Silicon Labs device
  • Simplicity Studio 5 is in maintenance; SDK 2025.6 is its final release and new work is steered to Studio 6
  • Series 3 SiXG302 is planned for customer sampling in 2026, so only the SiXG301 is generally available
  • Embedding the Micrium OS kernel in a commercial product requires a separate Commercial License
