Fleet management

Operating a large population of deployed devices as a whole: grouping, monitoring health, scheduling updates and acting on anomalies at scale.

Fleet management is device management viewed from the operator’s chair. Instead of configuring one unit, you tag devices by hardware revision, region or customer, define policies for each group, and watch aggregate indicators such as connectivity rate, battery levels and firmware version spread. An OTA update is rolled to a canary group first and halted automatically if failure reports rise.

The term also has an older meaning in telematics, where it describes tracking and maintaining vehicles. In both senses the goal is the same: find the units that need attention without inspecting all of them. The tooling side is described in Device management and OTA updates.
