STMicroelectronics manufactures the STM32 family of Arm Cortex-M microcontrollers, from the entry-level STM32C0 and STM32G0 to the STM32U5 ultra-low-power line, the STM32H7 and the STM32N6 with its Neural-ART accelerator for edge AI. The wireless members are the STM32WBA and STM32WB0 (Bluetooth Low Energy, Zigbee, Thread and Matter), the STM32WL and STM32WL3 (sub-GHz and LoRa radios) and the ST67W Wi-Fi coprocessor. It also produces STM32MP Cortex-A microprocessors, MEMS motion and environmental sensors, STSAFE secure elements and power management chips. Developers of smart meters, asset trackers, appliances and industrial controllers use its silicon together with the STM32Cube software tools, which now include STM32CubeIDE for VS Code alongside the Eclipse-based IDE.

Pricing model

STM32 devices are sold through distributors and ST's own eStore (orders capped at 500 units, card payment, shipped from the US); ST's site advertises entry-level STM32C5 MCUs "starting at $0.64" without a stated quantity. Known limits

  • ST's software licence (SLA0048) limits STM32Cube packages to ST devices
  • eStore orders are capped at 500 units and ship from the US, so import duties can apply elsewhere
  • ST now focuses on STM32CubeIDE for VS Code as the primary IDE; the Eclipse variant gets fewer new features
